Starting at $50.95, AutoBuffy stocks 1 transfer case output shaft seals from SKF. This seal sits where the output shaft exits the transfer case housing, keeping gear oil inside and road contaminants out. When it fails, fluid leaks onto the driveshaft or skid plate, starving the transfer case of lubrication and risking costly internal damage if ignored.
Transfer case output shaft seals vary by position (front output, rear output, or both), seal material, and whether the kit includes a new yoke seal retainer or dust lip. Confirm which output shaft is leaking before ordering — many Subaru Xt applications have separate front and rear output seals with different diameters. OEM-spec rubber compound and correct dimensional fit matter more than brand name for a part that lives in a high-heat, high-RPM environment.
| Option | Best for | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| OEM-Equivalent Replacement | Restoring factory performance on a daily driver | Exact-fit dimensions, factory-matched lip material, reliable long-term sealing without modification |
| Heavy-Duty / PTFE-Lip Seal | Towing, off-road, or high-heat use cases | Polytetrafluoroethylene lip resists heat and abrasion better than standard rubber, longer service life under stress |
| Seal & Yoke Kit | High-mileage vehicles where the yoke slip surface is worn or grooved | Includes the output shaft seal plus a new slip-yoke or repair sleeve to restore a clean sealing surface |
| Front Output Seal (4WD specific) | Vehicles leaking at the front driveshaft connection only | Sized for the front output shaft bore; do not substitute for the rear output seal even if dimensions look close |
Raise and support the vehicle safely, then disconnect the driveshaft from the transfer case yoke and slide or unbolt the yoke from the output shaft. Use a seal puller to extract the old seal without scoring the bore, then drive the new seal in squarely until it sits flush with the housing. Reinstall the yoke, reconnect the driveshaft to factory specification, and refill the transfer case with the correct fluid type and quantity before testing for leaks.
